6 Tips to Develop the Attention Span of Children (Part 2)

I have brought up the crucial roles of mothers, the need to convert our homes into book havens and also to ensure that our children rely less on technology so as to develop their attention span, and of ours too! Here are the remaining 3 tips:

4) Fathers must tell inspiring stories to their children. Stories about their struggles, about failures and successes, the people that matter most in life and more importantly, funny episodes. These narratives, if told in romantic cum humorous ways, would develop attentiveness in children. They will learn the Art of Listening while being able to internalize some useful lessons. Added to this is the fact that such narratives told to us by our fathers tend to develop a sense of confidence in us and also closeness to the very people who tell us these stories. So it is a combo deal we are talking about here. Provide good narratives to develop attention span of our kids and in the process develop love with and in them.

5) Sports! Engage in sports with your kids, climbing together, running, soccer, hockey, table tennis and so forth. Sports help children to develop strength, will and focus and to learn how to concentrate when given tasks. In soccer for example, each player is required to know their roles and also to know certain skills that would enable the team to win or to pass, stop and handle the ball well enough to make the whole experience enjoyable for all players involved. Studies have shown that most people who are ultra-focussed in sports and who work hard to develop skills and techniques tend to be focussed in life as well. So sweat it out with the kids and make them attentive to the games you play with them.

6) Last of all, be consistent and persistent. Developing a child’s attention span requires stamina. It is not a hundred metre race where you give the kid what he/she needs in one day and then forget all about it in another. To develop attentive children, we parents must be attentive to the tips that I have given above.

All the best!
